I started to create music video because of my friend Khyamm. He was a great photographer. He liked my music and wanted to create music videos for me. He had a professional HD camera and the footage looked great. I was pretty excited and couldn't wait to see what he did with it. Once I saw it I was disappointed. The music and lip-sync didn't match. I asked him if he could give me the raw footage so I could edit it but I think I offended him. He never give it to me. So from that point on I decided to try and create my own music videos.
My very first music video was "Desperate times need Asian woman" All I had was a web camera. It wasn't the best quality but I was able to match the music with the video. I used clips from around my house. I then did a search online to see if I could post my video online. I found YouTube and Reever. I created my accounts and uploaded my video. I then bought a video camera and started shooting footage in the forest and nature scenes when I went out with friends or mentee.
In 2005 I got in a relationship for all the wrong reasons and the woman really hurt me bad. One of the teen that I mentored stole from me and that really had me feeling depressed. At that point I drank until I was intoxicated. And recorded my pain and sorrow in a song named "Why must I cry" I worked on creating a music video and it was completed it in 2006 but no matter what I did the rendering would fail. I was so upset. The video was not the video that made me famous. In-fact I bought new video editing software and reedited the video. In the original video I used the shower scene 2 times in the video. But when I reedited the video I decided to make the shower scene the center of the video. A guy so hurt he's crying in the shower. I then put a string of clips with the actual people who hurt me. I was thankful that my friend Khyamm helped me by taking my photos and tried to record a music video for me so i put a clip of him & I in where we are walking through smoke. I posted it on Youtube and didn't think about it much. I came home and checked my e-mail and was blown away by the messages from YouTube. Thousands of comments.
I didn't know how to react. People were actually entertained by my pain and suffering. Some of the comments were racist and hurtful. I tried to fight back by replying to them but it was just too much. I thought to myself why are people so cruel? In know time I had one million views. A producer from a comedy show on BET named "We've gotta do better" contacted me wanting to use clips from my video. I agreed and watched the show. The comedian Charlie Murphy ripped me to shreds. I then made a song about the comedian named "Just doesn't matter" and fired back at him. I then created a video for that song and put it on Youtube.
I decided that I wanted to create a journal of my life through my music videos. Much like what I've been doing with my music. I decided to take the songs that meant a lot to me because of the time period and experiences. I exploded with hundreds of videos. The only one that was doing really well was the original one but some of the others got half a million to nine hundred thousand views. "You say I'm ugly" generated a lot of hateful comments. I didn't really care at that point what people thought. Other songs that generated a buzz You say I'm ugly rmx, Senor Morales, I hate your friends, I'm your blacked Chinese man, No more crying no more, & Watch my flow. Two years later I was contacted by producers from a new show on Comedy Central named "Tosh.O" I agreed to do the show.
It was really great. They flew me out to Los Angeles and the had a music video director recreate my music video but made it bigger and better ("Why must I cry Tosh.O Remix"). To date people still recognize me when I'm in public. Throughout the years I had many other broadcast stations contact me like Rude Tube from the U.K., MTV, and numerous online shows.
